Landscape and cityscape photography has an odd risk/reward dynamic to it. In nice weather, you might have an enjoyable experience, but are unlikely to get a dramatic shot. In nasty weather, most of the time you are destined for failure. Grey, misty, nastiness doesn't lend itself to great pictures. You are likely to get rained on, have a miserable time, and come home with nothing. But every now and then, when conditions look terrible, things change slightly, or the skies open up just a bit, and you get absolutely GREAT conditions. So you have to brave the terrible conditions so you are around for that 1% chance that you get the dramatic light.
Such was the case here. We planned to go to downtown Dallas and photograph from Reunion Tower. The sky was grey and uninteresting, and there were storms in the area. We went anyway. We got there and were told that we could not go out on the observation desk because of the bad conditions. We went up anyway. When we got up to the top, conditions had improved a bit they let us on the observation desk. We were treated to this sky and the nice reflections on the buildings.
Sometimes things work out. Trudge on!
